NO FEE:
We are suggesting a voluntarily donation to the synagogue of $100.
A donation receipt will be issued to you, in due course.

YOUR CAMERA & PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

Any camera will do including a cell phone camera.

For this course, no prior experience in photography is ‘a deal maker’.

THE COURSE:

Each participant will select a project which they will develop over the 8 week period of the course. It will be important to select a topic that will challenge the participant, so that 'ennui' does not set in. There can be more than one topic selected. It would be beneficial if any ancillary projects related to th initial subject.

Here are some examples of projects, some of which may resonate with you:

  • The Rules of Composition. There are a number of rules that you can work with, such as, the rule of thirds and the rule of odds.
  • Images that break the Rules of Composition, yet are compelling to you and the viewer
  • The elements of Design, such as line, shape and texture.
  • Explore lighting (quality of light) of subjects in natural light and light from man-made sources.
  • Explore directional light - from above, below, side, reflected, bounced.
  • Portraits - individuals and groups
  • Create colour images - using the principles of the colour wheel (complementary, analogous, primary, secondary & tertiary)
  • Store fronts in different locations in the city.Hardware stores, coffee shops are interesting both from the outside and the interior.
  • Parts of large things or small things. In this topic, the subjects can be diverse, such as cars, flowers, cutlery, jewelry, etc.
  • Reflections and/or shadows
  • Flowers and foliage
  • Periodic image creation - the goal is to creat images 'worthy of framing'. This exercise can be done once per week or up to daily.
  • Food photography
  • Motion - explore the various ways in which there is the d=feeling of motion
  • Depth

The selected topic could be carried out in the comfort of your own home or in the field.

I have found that real learning takes place 'in the field'. Not only getting out with your camera but often and with a purpose.  Again, I return to the theme of visualization; planning what you want to do and preparing for the shoot mentally (what will the images look like), physically (where will I find these images), weather conditions (how must I prepare physically), techniques to apply (some advanced reading before you commence the shoot) and gear (what equipment - lenses - do I need to have at at hand). The project selected can also be done indoors if that is its nature

Registration is limited to the first 20 participants!

Sorry, Registration has ended.
